I assume that you have a PCI card for RAID so I don't know if the same applies, albeit disabling the RAID controller is a no-no in most cases.

They are SATA drives.Now, before anyone says it's because I'm taxing the system, let me point out that the built in AC'97 audio does not exhibit the problem. I hate Windows 8 with a passion.

This time XP wants to do a "standard pc" install, I guess the old mobo is not ACPI compliant. It's in the bl--dy manual anyway. When i installed it, it shared IRQ with the Raid controller.
